This chapter describes events in Gray’s life from 1968 to 1974. These include the establishment of an interracial group called the Committee of Conscience, which sought to rebuild black churches that had been torched, by Gray and other clergy and business leaders; Gray’s sermons; and the end of the Civil Rights Movement and the violence associated with it after 1970.
